A black and white dog with a happy expression is looking up at the camera with its mouth open. The dog's ears are perked up, and it appears to be excited.

What does this mean for a dog with this trait?

There is no cure for epilepsy, but medications can help manage the frequency and intensity of seizures.

Symptoms

Signs of epilepsy typically appear between 1 and 5 years of age. Dogs experience both generalized seizures, which may occur as stiffening or paddling movements followed by a loss of consciousness, and focal seizures, which appear as abnormal movements in one part of the body. Seizures vary in length and frequency.
