Treatment may include topical therapies like shampoos, rinses, and topical medications, such as antihistamines and steroids, as well as immunotherapies. Secondary infections may also be treated with antibiotics.

Symptoms

Signs of atopic dermatitis typically appear between 6 months and 3 years of age. The condition causes significant itchiness. Dogs with atopic dermatitis scratch, lick, chew, and rub skin excessively, causing hair loss, hot spots, and discoloration. Symptoms may also include ear and skin infections, red and goopy eyes, excess sneezing, and more.
