Progressive retinal atrophy 1 (PRA1) is a degenerative eye disease affecting Golden Retriever dogs that ultimately results in total blindness. It is caused by a mutation in the SLC4A3 gene and leads to retinal degeneration. For a litter to be affected, both parents must be carriers of PRA1.
