Ichthyosis is a genetic skin disorder. In Great Danes, it is caused by a mutation in the SLC27A4 gene. The condition affects the outer layer of the skin, causing it to develop improperly. This condition is inherited in the autosomal recessive fashion, meaning both parents must be carriers for a litter to be affected.
