Hyperuricosuria
Hyperuricosuria (HUU) is a genetic disorder affecting a dog's urinary system. HUU is characterized by elevated uric acid levels in the urine. This condition arises due to a mutation in the SLC2A9 gene, which is essential for transporting uric acid in the kidneys. When dogs inherit this mutation from both parents, they are at risk of developing hyperuricosuria. Elevated uric acid can lead to the formation of crystals or stones in the urinary tract, potentially causing severe health issues.
