Factor IX Deficiency, also known as Hemophilia B, is a rare blood disorder in Rhodesian Ridgebacks where the blood cannot clot properly, leading to excessive bleeding. This disorder is caused by the hereditary deficiency of the clotting protein Factor IX, with a missense mutation (c.731G>A) in exon 7 of the F9 gene. Male dogs are more affected because they only have one X chromosome, but females are still at risk if both X chromosomes carry the mutation. They can also be carriers.
