Autosomal Recessive Severe Combined Immunodeficiency is an immunocompromising disease that inhibits the immune system’s production of white blood cells. Dogs with ARSCID are unable to fight infection and disease, resulting in early death. In Frisian Water Dogs, this is caused by a mutation in the RAG1 gene. Both parents must be carriers for ARSCID for the litter to be affected.
